New Paintings

I still plan to write more about my time at VSC, but I wanted to interrupt the flow of posts with a quickie sharing the first new paintings I’ve made since being back home.  As you can probably tell, I decided to pick up right where I left off.  These paintings are slightly larger (16″ x 16″) and in general the color of the larger forms and the pinstripe are bolder.  Here they are:

Acrylic paint, polyacrylic on walnut plywood

2010

I apologize for the red tint to this image that seems to appear on PCs.  Anyone know what causes this?  I don’t see it on my Mac and I don’t know how to get rid of it.

Also of note is that I have uploaded a new section to my Web site for some of the new paintings I’ve been working on.  I’ve received some wonderful feedback about these works and feel they merit inclusion on the site.  You can see the new painting section by clicking here.

As always, I appreciate you taking the time to look at my work and welcome any feedback you may have.

  1. JT – been following you since you closed the previous blog and started a personal one and, well, these works really made me stand up when they came over the RSS feed. I loved your trajectory at the Vermont residency and think the last year has really been a transformational one for you and your work. Hope to see some in person sometime.

Forgive me if I’ve missed some of your dialog on this, but I’m wondering where you’re sourcing your use of color. Any chance there will be a dedicated color post sometime soon?

  2. Matt,

Thanks so much for leaving such a generous comment and for following the progress of my work. I sincerely appreciate it. I’m not sure when I’ll get a chance to show in Missouri but maybe the paths travelled by you and my work will cross at some point. I hope so.

It’s interesting you bring up color. I think it would be worthwhile (to readers and me) to give it some thought and craft a post about it. I’ll try to post something about that soon.

    Thanks again!

  3. I love these pieces. Can you tell me how you get those nice, clean pinstripes?

  4. Hi David,

Thanks for the compliment. The pinstripes are just done with tape… nothing fancy!
